Hi There Mark. Yeah like you, for my business, I hate acting as the tax agent for our government. Can you confirm my hope that this "sales tax" would not apply to international customers??????
Thanks Grant
I've never checked, but I assume customs includes regional and not just federal taxes; if it doesn't then I suspect international payers will be charged Wisconsin tax on the purchase and still pay customs.
Hi there Joe, we buy quite a bit of non-knife stuff from Oz and the local Aussie tax is refunded and then if other NZ taxes apply they are currently assessed & applied at our border. So at this stage I would be hopeful that in buying knife related stuff from the US the local taxes are remitted - don't know.
Also that may be in the process of changing. Currently for us, if the purchase-plus-freight is under NZD400 then we don't get charged anything with it coming across the border, because the administrative cost of assessing & collecting said tax is greater than the actual tax value recouped. However as you might expect with the increase of international internet purchases over the last few years the government is seeing a pot of gold going begging. So the intent is that for all international companies sending items to NZ, where that company's total annual exports to NZ exceed NZD80,000 the the selling company will be responsible for collecting & remitting the applicable NZ tax to the NZ government.
As the old saying goes there are only two certainties in life ie death & taxes. And, not wanting to put the kibosh on Mark's plans for the future, I'm just hoping that it wont exceed NZD80,000 in any one year
