Re: Show us your new handle
That handle looks amazing, Steve. Very classy with some pop!pd7077 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2020 1:08 pm I finally got around to having a handle made for my Konosuke Fujiyama B#2 240. I’ve always been a fan of Bart’s (nicestslice on IG) work ever since he did a handle for my Mizuno honyaki so I was stoked when he agreed to do this one. Sean (nakneker) gave me a nice piece of orange mammoth tooth, and I was finally able to use a piece of streaked black buffalo horn that I’ve been holding on to for a while. The body is Macassar ebony. Super happy with how this one turned out.

Re: Show us your new handle
Thanks to all for the inspiration. The only issue is that now I'm rethinking my project to add a bit of flash. Rather than hijacking this thread, I'll post another with my request for guidance, but you can bet that I'll post my results here.
Re: Show us your new handle
I should have posted the 210 Mazaki here originally. But here it is with a matching 240mm that I finished yesterday.
The 240 I converted to just a classic D-shape handle, then torched it nicely. I'm really liking this new look for both of these.

I just got my Takeda Classic 240 back from @Jobone the other day, and I’m totally smitten. We kept the design on the simpler side of things, and I think that it really complements the blade perfectly. The handle is royal ebony with a brass/copper mokume ferrule cap.

Tanaka Snakewood 😂
I have always loved my Tanaka (Kazuyuki) Ironwood, but the handle always irked me. The stock handle looked fantastic, but it was way too narrow for me. A few years ago, I sold a knife that had a really nice snakewood handle on it, and while I don’t regret selling that knife, I always regretted letting go of that handle. So I figured...why not convert my knife into a Tanaka Snakewood?!?

Is that the original finish on the blade or a redo?pd7077 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 07, 2020 5:06 pm I have always loved my Tanaka (Kazuyuki) Ironwood, but the handle always irked me. Re: Show us your new handle
Haha...I wish I was good enough to make that handle. Matt did the handle. He’s always my go-to guy for handles for my keeper knives. I am gonna be trying to make another handle soon at his shop. I was there the other day grinding out my first knife blank...a 75mm paring knife that Duy forged a while back.
That is the original finish of the knife. It’s a Kazuyuki, and his finish is usually slightly different than Shigeki. I may polish the core sometime in the future, but I’ll leave it as is for now. Just happy that the handle is finally comfy in hand.

Re: Show us your new handle
Holy Smokes! The detail on that handle is exceptional. Look at how the thin spacers (g10? Vulcanized paper?) wrap perfectly at 90* angle at the bolster. That $hit is *really* hard to do. Kudos Matt. I make handles too and am proud of what I put out, but damn - that is some detail that I don't have in my arsenal (yet...).

Re: Show us your new handle
It’s brass sandwiched with G10. Matt is definitely on another level. The best part about his work is that he’s never afraid to try out a new idea. The crazy thing is that he’s always able to pull it off. The dude has got talent for sure!delmar wrote: ↑Tue Apr 07, 2020 10:36 pm Holy Smokes! The detail on that handle is exceptional. My Suisin IH 180mm Petty re-handled by JoBone.
Really happy about this one (my only re-handle). Wanted something personal, sleek and simple. This was perfect.
Rosewood & Blonde Horn.
