Re: Show us your new handle
Game of Thrones handle. This was actually my kids idea. Had a Misono dragon suji in need of some love. My daughter thought is would look cool with some scales on the handle. The closest thing I could find to dragon scales was a green honeycomb C-Tek.
Converted it from a western to a wa. Ended up being really comfortable. It is oval at the bolster, then gradually converts to a full octagon toward the butt.

That looks awesome. I want to make some of those at some point. On a separate note, some people have said Pinecones in resin look like dragon scales.Kalaeb wrote: ↑Mon May 06, 2019 10:22 am Game of Thrones handle. This was actually my kids idea. Did you stabilize the amboyna? I have a piece I’m saving for a handle and am not sure if I should send off or just tung-oil itjobone wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2019 6:46 am Did this for myself, so I’ll share. Just a beautiful piece of Amboyna with ebony and copper.
Picked up this Mazaki 150 petty, which measures about 160. It sat on a shelf till it got jazzed up and put into rotation. It’s a great knife, my wife’s new favorite. I highly recommend it for someone looking into a petty.
Thanks!

Re: Show us your new handle
These were the last handle that I made in the last couple of week.
The Mutsumi Hinoura 120 Petty with "Single" piece Javanese Rosewood with heptagonal shape.
and My first time doing rescales on Western Handle, My Tojiro SG2 Santoku with Golden Amboyna Burl.
this will be much easier if I have a belt sander.

That before / after shot really demonstrates how much a new handle can complete an already great looking knife.
Re: Show us your new handle
Thanks guys! I've really enjoyed this handle and still one of my favorites.

Here’s my most recent handle that I made using a Jekyll & Hyde look with a two tone birdseye maple

Re: Show us your new handle
Brought my Yahiko Ice hakata to a local knife maker, Marc Liss of Origin Handcrafted (@origin_handcrafted on Instagram). I was able to look at and touch the materials he had, which was a unique experience. And I had input on the size and taper of the handle. The body of the handle is Manitoba maple burl, the spacer is local deer antler, and the ferrule (which I was incorrectly pronouncing until meeting Marc) is stabilized maple. Very tight install as well. Love how this turned out, and it was one of the most affordable custom handles I've gotten. Still waiting to try out one of his blades someday.
