This is exactly what I did to my Fujer(flat against the bevel - I only have wide bevels)...only I used Shinden for the whole thing. My Shinden is probably 4-6k(i'm guessing). It has kind of an abrasive, grainy but smooth feel to it...not really high grit..hard slippery. I'd rather take more time, than scratch the Fujiyama beyond comprehension. I enjoy the time, experiencing the works... The Shinden still moved tons of metal...yet it kept a good finish all the way through. ;)

That's cool desol, I enjoy the process of thinning as well. It's a little scary sometimes, from an aesthetic point of view but most of the time the knives are pretty scratched up when I get the, anyway and the owner isn't concerned about that.
