Re-profiled wa handle
Finally got around to doing something I have been wanting to do for a while. I was thinking about it, but when I saw Chocu1a do it with his Mazaki I was motivated to do it even more. With weather being a beautiful 60's today, and my being off, I finally got around to it.
First I re-profiled the wa handle to a "double-d". Because, you know, who hates double-d's?
The took the torch to it, re-polished and first coat of oil applied. Such a huge improvement in both aesthetics and actual feel.

This looks fantastic. I love the new handle profile. In an effort to "save time" I used the ubiquitous little harbor freight belt sander to knock off the initial bevels, then the rest by hand. Really not hard at all. The sandpapers I used were grits 80 on up to 1500, then on to fine micro mesh pads to buff the buffalo horn. For the wooden part of the handle I just rough sanded up to 1500, but didn't focus on making it smooth and even just to help keep some grip texture.
The original handles are big enough to kind of do whatever with. I thought about doing a hybrid western with it, but lack that kind of skill currently.

I've thought about doing this in the past to make a few handles more comfortable. I think you may have just pushed me over the edge!
If God wanted me to be a vegetarian he wouldn't have made animals taste so good.

Did you remove the handle, or did you do the sanding with it still attached to knife?

Jeff, you should definitely do it.
I was on the fence with these knives prior to modding the handle. Great blades, handles just weren't my cup of tea. Now I'm all in
