Chosera 2k vs 3k

Post by bigwoolymammoth »

Quite the price difference. People seem to love the 3k. Anyone have experience using both the 2k and 3k? Maybe a comparison of the Shapton Pro 2k vs. either the 2k or 3k chosera? Thanks!

I seem to be one of few that does not like the 2k. It has rubbery feedback and I simply don't care for the feel. It cuts well enough but I prefer the shapton Pro 2k. The 3k is a great stone, though. I say it is closer to a 4k when compared to other brands. It is fast but fairly fine for its grit rating. Hard but has good feedback. It is, to me, worth the price difference. If you do want a true 2k stone I suggest the shapton pro as a replacement.

As I said, I find the 3k to be more like a 4k and I like to use it after the Shapton 2k as such. :)

The 3k is the hardest of the series. Choceras are 'creamy' andthe Shappton pro stohes are harder, more precise stones.

If you are going to a final 5k finish, a 2k is a more efficient choice, but if you like a final 3k edge well you can precede it with a 1k or 1500 grit stone. If you are going from a 3k edge to a next higher grit, 6k makes more sense than the small 3k to 5k jump.
