Flattening a 150 grit stone

Post by arthurfowler »

Hi

I have a Nubatama 150 grit stone that needs flattening. How do you guys flatten your low grit stones. I have an Atoma 140 but I presume it isn't a low enough grit to be effective. I thought I would pose the question before trying it out.

Many thanks

Gareth

Hi There Arthur. I use the Atoma 140 to flatten my Nub150 and don't have any problems. Admittedly I don't get to use my N150 all that much these days and when I do I flatten it for every session. So far I haven't found the need to go coarser than the Atoma 140, but do have a 3M 120 grit diamond plate that would be my next step if I wanted more initial bite.

HTH
Cheers Grant

Just because you're not paranoid doesn't mean they're not going to get you!!

The 140 Atoma will work fine for this.

Thanks Gregory, I didn't know that. Whilst looking on the site, I realised that they had one Yoshimune 240mm up for sale and I grabbed it and added the 80 grit diamond plate as it is very reasonable. Thanks Grant and Ken, will give that a try first.
