Suehiro #180???
Does anyone have any experience with Suehiro's #180 grit big green bricks?
If they are solid performers, I'd much prefer it; as opposed to a 220, for reprofiling work. (I have a Cerax 325 on order)
Please put this noobernaut in his place

Re: Suehiro #180???
I don't have any experience with a stone that course and I am not familiar with the Suehiro 180 but Ken Schwartz from Ken's Corner on the forum sells green stones in that grit and even lower. He might be along to explain them to you or you can check Ken's Corner in the sub forum and see his phone number or email link and give him a buzz. His Nubatama 150 is well liked. He even has a list of his stones and prices in Ken's Corner if you care to take a look.Hope this helps in your search.Horizonson wrote: ↑Tue Sep 11, 2018 12:39 pm Does anyone have any experience with Suehiro's #180 grit big green bricks?

Re: Suehiro #180???
I hunted down his thread.
Thank you.
Didn't realize they were not available via web purchase. Which explains why I couldn't find them online
Stones that I have ordered/received by grit:
325, 800, 2k, 5k & 8k
Gives me about a x2.5 progression between the 325 through 5k. Following that trend; a plum 60 and bamboo 150 would fit nicely.
Or tighten up the spread with a 100 and 180?
TIA
Thank you.

I don't have direct experience with the 180 Suehiro. Do you have a picture of it? Also where did you get it?
I do have coarser grit stones from 24 grit on up to 30k, including two 180 grit Nubatama stones (video links below). PM me if you are interested.

Re: Suehiro #180???
Ken, thank you for chiming in. Love the videos.
I am in the "research" phase for sub-325 stones, at the moment. I spotted the Suehiro #180 green bricks on their website. Not too many vendors for them, so it would seem thus far.
I have read many great reviews of the Bamboo 150. Many seem to favor it over the 120 or 180.
Is it safe to say that the Cerax 325 will make quick work of the #150 scratch pattern?
Being new to freehand stone sharpening, I am ignorant to efficient grit progression in the extra course stones. Thus; in need of guidance.
I would like to have a full spread of stones at my disposal. I have 325 to 8k covered. Stropping after 5k and/or 8k stone.
From bottom to 325, is where I am in need of your help.
#60 & #150?
-OR-
#60, #100 & #180
-OR-
Some other/better served progression?
Cutlery? Everything from super soft to super hard. Stainless, semi-stainless and full on carbon white paper #1, etc.
Your time and attention is much appreciated.

The Suehiro #180 looks to be similar to the Plum series. They have many shapes and sizes of the stone on their website:

If you guys want me to get it I’ll try. Personally I like using the Atoma 140 in place of synthetic stones under 320 grit. They always wear so quickly that I end up spending more time flattening than I do sharpening.

Though your store is missing sub-220 stones... I don't know how many you would move; or how often.
I can tell you; in my resent searching, people do seem to ask about them.
For me; I'll most likely contact Ken in the weeks to come, and place an order through him. His videos on Youtube, and participation in forums, have been very helpful in my quest for knowledge.

Re: Suehiro #180???
As much as I like to sell a bunch of stones, I world suggest just going with the 150 alone. It is a perfect stone to follow the 140 Atoma or just go it alone. Later you could go for the 60 grit, but that would be more rare. From an atoma 140 it is difficult to jump to a higher grit stone, but from the 150 jumps to even 1200 grit are reasonable for softer steel blades. I often use a 320 platinum to follow the 150, an easy jump.

Re: Suehiro #180???
Sounds good, Ken.
My recent digging had led me to the 220 pink brick. Which seemed too close to the Cerax 320 I have on order. Kept hearing about this "Ken guy" and the Bamboo 150. But couldn't find where to purchase one.
Finally; I stumbled onto the Suehiro 180. About the same time I put two and two together, and realized how to get a hold of you and the stones you import
Sounds like the Bamboo 150 will be a perfect match for my x2.5 stone progression: 150, 320, 800, 2k & 5k
