Re: How do you store your stones?
I'll take pictures later but, for the most part they go in Shapton Pro plastic boxes or sit alone on plywood shelves on their narrow sides spaced apart. I already learned the hard way that storing damp stones in cardboard boxes leaves very moldy stones that took a lot of work with my Atoma 140 to remove (a lot of stone waisted). Great topic.

Re: How do you store your stones?
A couple tubs of stones along with other sharpening toys and knife stuff stored in the top of a small tool closet.
All my stones are splash-n-go and dry quickly so they get stored in their original boxes in the tubs.

Re: How do you store your stones?
I recently made a new home for my stones. The end of my kitchen island had a wine rack built in. I don’t drink wine and the slots were to large for craft beers.
So I decided to convert the space into racks for my stones, and various other knife related goodies. It worked out pretty well and gives me some room to add more stones to the collection in the future.

Thanks Jason! I am pretty happy with it, especially since I was able to do it with parts and materials I had in the garage. So it didn’t tap into my fun money at all

I let em dry for a week outside, flipping them. Then, store in the original box.

All the better! Please do tell about your knife block- that’s a fantastic display while also being pragmatic.Sean-in-AK wrote: ↑Sun Oct 14, 2018 12:56 pm Thanks Jason! Re: How do you store your stones?
Thanks guys I appreciate the kind words.
The knife block eh? I just recently bought it on amazon amazon. I planned on making a thread about it because it’s pretty handy and displays the knives well too. I am really liking it!
Here is a link to the knife block on amazon
Quick pros and cons
Pros
Inexpensive
Holds knives securely
Displays knives nicely
Rotates smoothely
Stable
Fits under standard height cabinets w/knives
Cons
240mm and longer blades don’t fit without part of the blade sitting below the block- not safe for hands or knife tips. I have thought about work around for this but have not tested
The rotating base is press fit into the block. It took a small bit of tweaking with a rubber mallet to make it sit perfectly flush and rotate without any wobble. Very simple and really no trouble to accomplish.
The bamboo construction wouldn’t be my first choice, but for the cost it is perfectly acceptable.
There was one other knife block of this design type I seriously considered, but it is expensive and used wood veneer not solid hardwood. It also does not fit 240mm knives. Thus, I opted to try the cheaper version and I am glad I did.
Here is a link to the expensive one.

This would be a great project to work with a custom wood maker to design a higher quality and taller version to fit 240mm knives.

Re: How do you store your stones?
This is a before pic of my stone racks.
The wine rack sat empty for the first 18 months I owned this house. I kept racking my brain trying to figure out how to make use of that space. It finally all came together -
