Lapping paste

Post by Peter Nowlan »

Hi. I ordered 12 syringes of lapping paste in grits ranging from 40-.5 microns. A friend told me they are good for removing scratches on blades. What is the best way to apply the paste and does it actually work?
Thank you.

I haven't used this product, but I will say that discussions on other threads (like Steve's on polishing) regarding things like diamond paste tend to highlight mixtures in the 3-6k range applied with a felt pad or felt block tend to "clean up" blades quite well without messing up the original finish (and thereby requiring a full "polishing" progression). I think they mentioned specific brands of felt pads, even, as their favorites, but I don't think this was argued as essential for any reason. Hopefully someone who has actually used lapping paste will chime in, too.

Comments: I'm short, a home cook, prefer lighter, thinner blades, and own mostly Konosukes but have used over a dozen brands.
