Work completed week of March 29th

The twisted laminated handles from last week had such a great reaction I am going for a production run. Two of these are spoken for. Since I started with six, and am down to four, let's just call this a learning experience.

Looks great, are you using epoxy or titebond?

I am a fan of 2 part epoxy for this work. My cuttingboards get tilebondII

Thank you. Two are for Dakota. I was planning on keeping one and selling another one. Last night after I posted this WIP picture on IG someone said they wanted one of these. Who knows if I will keep the last one or sell it.

These look very cool, great choice of woods, and seems original!

One question though, what's the rationale for epoxy over wood glue? Is it the African blackwood being too dense and/or oily? Usually wood glue like Titebond can make a bond that's as strong if not stronger than the wood, i.e. the wood breaks before the bond does.

During my research on handlemaking I saw several comments that epoxy wat the only adhesive that could hold up to the heat generated during the sanding process. After several iterations in my methods this may or may not be applicable. Another factor is the glueup...you should clamp the tile bond which can lead to a loss of alignment. I press fit my pieces and check / fix alignment for the first 5-10 minutes.

All that being said, you raise an interesting point that I might want to reconsider as I have refined my process.

Thank you,
Ben

Edit: after a wee bit of searching I found this link that might help some folks. http://www.wood-database.com/wood-artic ... hardwoods/
