Re: Vitamix 5200
That's an amazing deal! I got a reconditioned Vitamix for the same price and it ended up being the 6300 (paid an addition $50 for the extended warranty - 10 years total). It's a game changer for soups, sauces, etc. FWIW Cook's Illustrated consistently ranks the 5200 as the best blender.
For the crowd who says "Why do I need to spend so much on a blender?" Just try it and you'll understand.

Re: Vitamix 5200
If you want the pulse function and low profile container, personal preferences. The motors are basically the same.keithmarder wrote: ↑Tue Mar 06, 2018 5:44 pm Would a reconditioned 5300 for $30 more be a better purchase?

Re: Vitamix 5200
Thanks, Jeff. Seems like the low profile would be much more function to fit under cabinetsJeff B wrote: ↑Tue Mar 06, 2018 10:47 pmIf you want the pulse function and low profile container, personal preferences. Re: Vitamix 5200
You should look at what cooks illustrated said about the low profile container. They prefer the skinny tall container.

Re: Vitamix 5200
Haven't seen the cooks illustrated article(can't seem to find it) but from everything I've read the low profile container works just as well and for some things better. But where it struggles is with smaller batches.

Re: Vitamix 5200
I've seen that page with their reviews of the blenders but they don't specifically address the pros/cons of the different Vitamix containers on that page. Not sure what article that mdl130 alluded to.gladius wrote: ↑Wed Mar 07, 2018 10:12 pm-----

Re: Vitamix 5200
There are some differences between the two models.
The 5200 has a slightly less powerful motor. I believe it is 2 hp, compared to the 2.2 hp of the 5300. The 5300 generation is also designed to run slightly quieter.
While I like the 5300 version, it does suffer just slightly when working with the tiniest quantities. Really just talking about teeny amounts of salsa and the like.
Vitamix does offer a number of smaller containers that work with the 5300 and they largely solve this problem, if this is the machine you like. The standard container is 64 ounces. They are not cheap, but Vitamix sells 48 and 32 wet blade containers as accessories.
I have a Vitamix from the 5300 series (the Vitamix 300) and have both accessory containers. They are great extras when you either need a spare or want something with a smaller design. I would be perfectly happy with either the 5200 or the 5300 but tend to have a slight preference for the greater power and quieter function of the 5300 as long as I can jump to a smaller container when I want to.
Had my first Vitamix for 18 years and love them. Caveat....I actually have sold them!
