Damascus Slicer in Olivewood

Post by GabeMabry »

136 layers of damascus made by me consisting of 80crv2, 15n20, 1084. Fully forged to shape- random pattern. Rustic olivewood harvested from a really nice cutting board i decided to slice up with black g10 liners = full tang sculpted handle. Really light and thin Sharp sharp sharp!

What do you guys think?

theres a story behind this one =\

I like that one a lot. Nice work. What type of grind are you doing on them?

That is a FUll distal taper - flat grind to .008 prior to sharpening

hahaha well, what had happened was..... This was for a ktip custom spec build. It was originally 2" tall fully finished and ready for a handle when i found out that an entire batch of knives (this one included) wasnt up to snuff as far as the heat treat goes. SO in order to re heat treat this particular knife i had to thicken the edge to .030" which the only way to do that was to grind upwards :(

SO Voila! A slicing knife =\

First heat treat yeilded 56 RC for some unknown reason. Now sits at 61.8~

With the number of chef knives around here, it's nice to see some slicers.

hey thanks guys! I appreciate it a lot! Its just a relief in a way -- not having to scrap the entire thing. THe damascus took 2-3 days to make alone :P
