Show us your new handle
Re: Show us your new handle
White and marbled hard to come by these days. Some very limited quantities come up from time to time when I google it and then apply shopping filter/tab.
From time to time large grosses are brought in from overseas. The last couple were from India I believe, and were gray. Been a bit since I've seen white or marbled.
I'd check on Ebay since that is international, and perhaps Alibaba. I just bought some black rounds from Ebay that came in from Asia, Taiwan I think. Not cheap, end up being more than some synthetic replacements i use.

Thanks for response @delmar
Don’t want to hi-Jack this thread but has anyone had success with other horns or antlers as a ferrule? Wanting to try to make a handle. Also if anyone else has used antlers/bones, etc. for ferrules would be cool if they post pics here!

Not a new handle, just a new shade. Wanted to try burning ho wood so the Masamoto got the treatment. Burned, sanded and buffed...still not sure what type of oil I want to use, but as is, I like it:

Awesome looking handle, the colors really popjobone wrote: ↑Fri Sep 28, 2018 10:51 pm I recently made this one for my daughter. I was going to surprise her by putting it on her Masakage Kiri and sticking it the knife block at night. She busted me while the polish was drying and laid her claim. It was a joy and surprise for us both.
Spalted Maple body, Nickle-silver and turquoise spacer.

Picked up a couple of Daovua Leaf Spring Kogatanas as Christmas presents. Decided to wrap the handles in paracord. Not sure if this counts as a "handle".

Been wanting to post here for a while but wanted to get most of knives done before I post. These are the first three I did.
240 Moritaka AS - cocabolo and stabilized satinwood burl. Longer hand with more taper to match the blade shape
240 Sakai Yusuki Swedish Steel - Rosewood/ African Blackwood furrel
165 Masakage Yuki Nakiri - wenge/cocabolo furrel

240 forgot maker, AS. Curly Maple/Paduk furrel. Left in sun and furrel turned from reddish to chestnut brown. Like the more monotone look
160 Masakage Yuki Bunka - Austrailian Blackwood Burl/African Blackwood furrel
165 Makakage Yuki Santoku - olive wood, micarta spacer/ Paduck

Skipped pics of a Richmond artifex Nakiri because is looks identical to the Yusuki (rosewood/Blackwood)
Last knife is my favorite. Kurosaki/Richmond Laser. Resurfaced to remove the frosted line and some scratches I put in my not noticing a cleaning pad was abrasive grr.
Amboyna burl/African black ebony.

Re: Show us your new handle
I finally got around to having a handle made for my Konosuke Fujiyama B#2 240. I’ve always been a fan of Bart’s (nicestslice on IG) work ever since he did a handle for my Mizuno honyaki so I was stoked when he agreed to do this one. Sean (nakneker) gave me a nice piece of orange mammoth tooth, and I was finally able to use a piece of streaked black buffalo horn that I’ve been holding on to for a while. The body is Macassar ebony. Super happy with how this one turned out.
