Steamer Clams in Steamy California

Post by FisherMAn1298 »

I wanted to do something to brighten the day of my friend who recently lost his beloved wife and since he has a keen palette and I live on the North Shore of Ma. I decided on Steamer Clams and Bay Scallops. They were packed in frozen gel paks and overnighted from here to the sweltering suburbs of California. They arrived at 6:30am CA. time vis FedEx Overnight. Here is a pictorial of his wonderful lunch shared with his beloved dog!

What a fine bounty the sea offers us when harvested properly. The clams are dug from clam flats on a rotating basis to allow them to replenish themselves regularly. Strict rules on size prevent the harvesting of baby clams which would also potentially wipe out the fishery. The scallops are also harvested with renewal in mind so they don't wipe out the ocean's resources allowing us to can enjoy them for generations to come. Also, I just googled my town to his and it's 3,117.4 miles! Overnight is a truly wonderful thing! Thanks for the comments all!

Just seeing this post! What a wonderful and thoughtful thing to do!!
This was GREAT seafood! What a highpoint for my day this was. The tajine steamed the fresh clams perfectly and the teflon pan cooked the scallops perfectly. Of course Nikita got her share too.

THANK YOU!!!

I live on the coast of Ma. We are the oldest seaport in America, incorporated in 1623. Everything caught here is landed daily and sold that very day. It seemed appropriate for me to send this meal to him, he's a man who appreciates good food. Most of all, he's my friend going through the worst thing a human being must endure and doing it with great dignity and strength. I just wanted him to have a good day in the midst of all these very tough days. Remind him he's not alone, that people love and respect the man and that better days are ahead!YOU are a MENSCH my friend! These days are hard but will get a little easier as you go forward. I thank you all for caring about and offering emotional support to him.God bless you Ken Schwartz!

As it turns out, the end of the feast wasn't the end of the story. Ken was so grateful for the food and the distraction that he sent me a gift in return! He sent me a Yaginoshima Asagi natural stone.
stone2.jpg
Here's the top of the stone. HE also made a nagura stone for me to create a slurry pile to sharpen better.
n2.jpg
Here is the nagura stone on top of the box, my dog knocked it off the desk and it broke into 3 pieces. Now I have 3 nagura! Anyway, I used it for the first time last night and it cuts like a dream. I'm going to sharpen 3 knives, W#2, AS steel and a stainless blade for comparison. I'll post it after I summarize and write it up. OMG! Just what I need, a new type of stone to buy. Thank you Ken, your kindness is very much appreciated. I've learned so much talking with you I'll never be able to thank you enough!
