Sukenari's new shoes

Post by Kalaeb »

Its been a looong time since I have had some shop time (more than three years) but I finally completed a handle a few months ago. This one goes on my Sukenari ZDP-189. Handles is stacked mammoth ivory with a bog oak body and a black palm saya. The handle is a combined 15000 years old lol (bog oak dated at about 5560 years old, mammoth dated approx 10000 years old). Great knife and an awesome steel.

I’m curious. How does the new handle feel in hand?

The old handle was not bad, in fact it was great, but I was experimenting with stacking mammoth ivory so I needed a test subject and at the time this was the only non custom, lol.

Right now it feels great, been using it off and on for about 6 months and so far no issues with the stacked mammoth separating or shifting in changing climates.

Love it when you get feedback after time has passed. Gives you a longer term perspective on completed projects. Did you just stack them with epoxy?

Yes, just stacked with epoxy. I actually fully anticipated it to fail but so far so good. I have not dropped it yet, that will be the real test.
