250mm prep monster...this is a blade i will be passing around in the pass around forum.....It is a "no frills/bang for your buck" prep knife I made and designed mostly around the work JSGillis did for me. Last year or the year before or something like that he was instrumental in doing lots of testing at work, we had a lot of emails and back and forth and such. I have not heard from him in awhile. Hey JS, if you come across this I am passing around your blade but i wont sell it to anyone
This is the 15n20 steel heat treated by JT that i posted about in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=5571
It is a convex grind in .090 thick steel with a full distal taper. One kind member here lent me their masamoto KS a couple years ago...I only measured that one knife but I can say my dimensions are a hair bit thinner all the way around. It also has a good deal more flat spot and more back belly.
Part of what JS wanted in this knife was something that was thin and a pure joy to use for prepping large amounts of produce in the mornings before the kitchen got too crazy. As a result its a large laser but with particular attention paid to the convex. I am hoping its a marked improvement from your typical food release issues you find in other laser type knives.

Nice profile Tim! I'm a big fan of 15N20, a bunch of times almost jumped on one of JT's box of reclaimed 15N20 deals, definitely would be set for a loooong time as far as steel goes.
I vote for the non-forced patina version but that's just my personal taste.

thanks Jeff! I call it my "ghost cloud" finish. I need to get more of the stuff from new jersey steel baron. However, I dont believe ill ever attempt another 270mm blade in that thin of stock again

This knife was built for a forum member here
Belt finished XHP steel with a Lace figure Redwood burl handle and g10 ferrule. The handle is gently contoured. If anyone wondering on the process for this type of handle here are some details:
Ferrule is fit and handle block is broached and drilled. A little fine tuning of the broach and tang is needed to properly locate the pin hole. The handle is epoxied and left to cure for 24 hours.
The handle is then squared up to the now affixed knife. I pencil is my lines and rough it out with a 60 grit belt. The handle is then finish shaped with 220 grit leather backed sanding block up to about 600 gritand then a soft foam backed sanding block the rest of the way.

BTW: my brother still can't stop talking about the knife of yours I gave him. Too thin for me (I'm more of the workhorse type), but if someone's in the market for a laser, look no further than Tim' offerings.

did you guys ever see this one? it is an ultra light backpacking knife. Im not sure if I ever posted it here.
Im looking forward to finishing up about 30 or so 3-5 inch blade outdoorsy knives next year. Camp Kitchen K tips, Bushcrafters, hunting, fillet, backpackers ( a couple with the ghost cloud finish) and even a captains boat knife!
Ive also got a couple commissions in the works for early next year.
xhp core devint homas bubblewrap clad damascus with mother of pearl, mokume, bog oak......another more simple with blue#2, titanium, ringed gidgee......w2 steel, mokume, with amboyna and bog oak....Ive also been speaking with a young WPI student who has been making some sweet pattern welded steel local to me, we are discussing collaborating on some integral pieces. There will be more pictures

Here is my last for the year. A 250mm chef in w2 steel. Dove-wa handle with a mokume ferrule. The customer picked out a fantastic block of amboyna to go along with the bog oak frame.
