Fujiwara Maboroshi 240mm - SOLD!

Post by Nmiller21k »

Selling TF Mabororshi

$325.00 (shipped US), steeply discounted previous owner had it professionally thinned, cuts like a damned dream.

I tipped, it fairly bad when I got a very bad phone call, and now... using it brings up some pretty emotional stuff. It needs to go. Comes with saya.
Length, 238mm (Lost 2mm in the tipping)
Weight: 208g
Height: 49.5mm
Width @ Heel: 2.7mm
Width @ Mid: 1.9mm
Width @ Tip: .75mm

Trades considered, prefer cash.

GLWS! I haven't had luck selling my 210...not even a single low-ball offer. :(

Comments: I'm short, a home cook, prefer lighter, thinner blades, and own mostly Konosukes but have used over a dozen brands.

Indeed. I think yours should fly: it is a great deal and a useful size for professionals!

Honestly, if anything, my appreciation for these knives has increased a bit over time. I think a lot of them are duds beyond the heat treatment, but when you get your hands on one that either came with a good grind or had some work done to it, you end up with something mighty powerful. It just isn't my kind of power.

I also know what you mean about memories. I have a knife in my collection that is one of my favorites but which I just barely ever use. Spent too much time in an ex's kitchen for me to feel good about it yet...I've thought about selling it or giving it back just to replace it with the exact same knife, but I'm not sure if that would help.

Do you also have a Wa version, Nick? Or did this gyuto replace that one some time ago?

Not mentioned but this blade has the coveted 'tou cou' kanji. While there is a lot of misinformation out there I believe these markings were added to blades if they were forged by TF himself. Vendors I've asked concur. Fujiwara-san employs several people to make and sharpen these knives nowadays so read into that what you will.

Actually nothing.
Cleaning out.

This one I was holding when I got a phone call from my buddies wife. Was holding it when I answered and she told me he had taken his own life from PTSD

Tipped it
Sent to ken
And every time I look at it I hate the knife for completely irrational reasons.

It's an amazing knife if you want western handled carbon that cuts like a dream.

If that is the one I sold you then she's a great knife.
Obviously I sent it off to have done hardcore thinning and fine tuning done and once it came back I had allot of fun with it. But like most knives I wanted to try more so off she went! Im sure the new owner is going to enjoy it.
If I could only keep them all!
I should try to make a list of all the knives I bought, traded and sold in the last five years but then again....
I might not wanna see it in writing.

Congrats to the buyer and seller. I have a couple of unique TF's on their way at the moment. A Denka gyuto and a Maboroshi petty. They are NOS and have characteristics I've not seen on any of his knives before. He even reworked one of the blades at my request. Great service thats hard to find in the marketplace outside custom producers.
