just wondering how long the finish tends to last? i was google image searching and found some instances where big blotches of it were removed and it looked quite unattractive.
I'm leaning towards a Takeda. Haven't decided between the stainless or classic yet...
thx

Re: how long does Kurouchi last? specifically looking at takeda
Varies widely. I have never had the KU finish on one of my knives wear off...
BUT, I have never owned a KU knife that got more than, say, 3-6mo of regular use. I either used them infrequently or I sold them young.
I speculate that KU finishes will hold up to a year or so of normal home use before showing appreciable wear and last for many years without completely wear out. That said, the life of the finish is NOT the life of the knife. Even if all the finish wore off, keep using 'em.

Takeda specifically, the stainless KU definitely tends to last longer than the classic KU. Timeline, others will have to chime in as mine hasn't seen a significant amount of use yet.

Different for every maker.
My Konosuke Fujiyamas pretty much wore off after a few weeks!!
My Takeda and Shigs had no issues.

I've had a Takeda stainless for a few months now, I use it every day as my primary knife in a home kitchen. I haven't seen any deterioration on the KU finish yet.

I've had KU knives for years and it hasn't worn off any of them.

Actually after the first oh no moment I really don’t care. The santoku was the worst. Literally 2 weeks at most but I love that knife and really don’t care. My gyuto is still showing a bit but not much.
Regardless. All good.
Re: how long does Kurouchi last? specifically looking at takeda
I bought a used classic takeda gyuto and it has a fair amount of KU rubbed off. I think it adds to the rustic look and is minimally reactive.

How often do you give it full wash with soap, versus a quick wipe?
