When things go missing.

Post by ChefKnivesToGo »

I just received this email from a customer. Missing for 5 months...

Hi Mark,
You had helped me get a new knife for my husband earlier this year after the original one I purchased did not work out. That replacement knife sent around Jan 20th never appeared at our house inspite of what FedEx reported, and you very kindly sent a replacement. Guess what? That knife appeared on our door step this weekend with a written note on the box that it had been delivered to the wrong address! It is the Kanehiro AS Santoku and a case. I will be shipping it back to you in the coming days.

Thanks again for all your help. Bryan has very much enjoyed his knife.

Warm Regards,
Karen

What a refreshing message, nice to see karma and honesty play out.

Very generous of this customer to inform you of what happened and return the extra knife! You don't see that kind of honesty very much anymore.

Thats a great ending indeed. Nice attracts nice!

I just lost one that the USPS has now officially declared as gone!
They know it's in the dead mail facility but I guess they can't "find" it!

What took them so long  . Jk, that's great. That's the right the thing to do. I'm sure it helps you Mark to keep faith in humanity, because I'm sure you get alot of crazy stuff/requests.

+1 to Cutuu in that it's nice to have your faith in humanity restored.

In NZ we have a thing called the "Carriage of Goods Act" to cover such events, where, if the item goes missing in transit, the couriers (or others) have to pay the cost of the item up to a capped figure of NZD1,500 per item. The couriers hate it of course, but it does set the right incentives.

This gives me hope. I sold a 17 volume of “Lucky Peach” magazines and sent USPS. They “Lost” it and haven’t heard anything since. Maybe it’ll show up. Good story Mark.
