This is a project I've been working on for the past week. I successfully differentially hardened a piece of W2 steel and more or less shaped it into a sakimaru takobiki. This is supposed to be closer to a sword rather than a traditional takobiki and has slight sori or curvature to the blade. Unfortunately, the hamon runs right along the shinogi so in many places it is hard to see and it is very difficult for me to shape the ura concave smoothly, don't have the right fixtures. I still have to work out the fine shape details and polish it but I don't think it's bad for a first attempt.
W2 Mizu-Honyaki Sakimaru Takobiki. A work in progress.

This looks like a rather large understatement to me!
