245mm Gyuto with Snakewood handle

Post by Carter »

This is a recently completed 245mm gyuto made of 52100 and treated to 62HRC. The handle is double brass bolster with snakewood scales and brass pins and mosaic. The blade is 48mm at the heel and has a distal taper beginning about 2/3's up the spine and the tip is quite thin. The choil area and spine are rounded and polished.

The price on this is $550, a saya can be added for an additional $100.

Wow! That is a pretty knife... really like your aesthetic choices. That snakewood with the brass bolsters is super classy!

How was the snakewood to work? I have a few snakewood scales myself but too scaredy cat to use so far...

Thanks for the kind words guys, I appreciate it.

Snakewood is not difficult to work with, but it is very hard....use sharp bits and fresh sandpaper. I always clean with acetone before epoxying it. Sometimes it has or will develop small cracks....CA is your friend in those instances.
