Show us your new handle
I wanted to share a new handle I just received today. Recently I got to know Andreu here on the forum, user name andreu, lol. He is starting to make handles and so I asked him if he would handle a new Shig 240 that I bought from another friend. Steve, Pd7077 is a mutual friend of both Andreu and myself. The idea was for Andreu and Steve to design it and for me to stay the hell out of the way until it was done. A surprise so to speak.
I knew between the two of them the odds of success were high. You may know Steve from his polishing and etching thread, the man has a gift for matching handles and blades, not to mention his polishing and etching. Andreu owns a few top tier knives himself, he has quite a collection and impeccable taste as well. i Felt like I was in good hands.
So the pictures below is what they came up with. Spalted Hackberry handle with carbon fiber spacer and brass liners. The carbon fiber was sent to Andreu from Steve and then Andreu took it from there. I was blown away, it surpassed expectations in every way. J knives are fun, the people who enjoy them make it even more enjoyable. Andreu did a first rate job on the craftsmanship. Thanks Andreu and Steve, I love it!!
My only question now is will Andreu consider doing another one? I damn sure hope so.
I hope others will share what they’ve done as far as handles too. I’ve enjoyed handles by Ben, Duy and now Andreu. Fun stuff!!

Looks great! Almost like some sort of stone...granite or something. Really interesting pattern

Re: Show us your new handle
This thread is a good idea. I have a tendency to post handles in the “New Knife” thread even when the knife isn’t new...this will be a much better place for that.
That handle looks pretty badass. The carbon fiber that I sent Andreu to use as your spacer is carbon fiber/brass Damascus. Definitely some cool stuff, and I hope to use some for a future handle too.

Thanks for the kind words and the opportunity, Sean. I know you have a pretty high standard and expectation and I can only hope that I have met it somehow.
Special thanks to Steve for working with me on this project. Your ingenuity and artistry is really remarkable. Thanks again, bro.

Here's a New Mexico special: Shi-Han 240 in A2 with a Cody Paul handle (gidgee and blackwood). This is a special knife for me because I got to shmooze with both these makers in their respective shops while they worked on this beautiful combo.
Re: Show us your new handle
Nice knife and handle! I always get nervous when people put their knives on pots, rocks, etc but so many do so whatever ( it's their knives). Is it a basic cast iron or something worth noting?AlbuquerqueDan wrote: ↑Tue Sep 25, 2018 9:34 pm Here's a New Mexico special: Shi-Han 240 in A2 with a Cody Paul handle (gidgee and blackwood). The pan just happened to be there and I was too lazy to move it. It's a Lodge. Nothing special, but very functional.Cutuu wrote: ↑Tue Sep 25, 2018 9:58 pmNice knife and handle! Re: Show us your new handle
It's a stellar knife. The steel is all but stainless and takes (and holds) a screaming edge. It's a pretty beefy grind.ashy2classy wrote: ↑Wed Sep 26, 2018 1:41 pmLove it! The original handle, I felt, was too light and it was blade-heavy. I had Cody make the handle primarily to bring the balance point back, which he did. Now it weighs 280gr, up from 225gr. Not a nimble cutter, but nothing will stop it!

When does the pass around start?

Re: Show us your new handle
I recently made this one for my daughter. I was going to surprise her by putting it on her Masakage Kiri and sticking it the knife block at night. She busted me while the polish was drying and laid her claim. It was a joy and surprise for us both.
