This is a very specific need, coming from non other than my good 'ol mum and her friends
They're looking for what looks like a Bunka, but taller (60mm) and shorter (130mm).
What they use now is a knife in this shape which is done by a blacksmith in Taiwan, made of unknown stainless steel, so they're after something similar but in much harder steel so it'd go longer between sharpening. Carbon steel is OK.
I've been looking for one for days but haven't found any that suits the above request - anyone know of any?
Any tall, short, Bunka?
Re: Any tall, short, Bunka?
Closest I've seen to something like like is a Takeda ko-bunka, but nothing that short in length will be that tall.

So I did a Google search on "buy short cleaver" and found a few reasonably priced customs out there.
Give it a shot.....

There are short cleavers on EBay that come close. My first though was the as Jbart above, Takeda but you don’t get close to the 60mm height.
Here’s on example.

Thanks for that - those are close but not quite tall enough! I'd love to get the Takeda in the shape needed...jbart65 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 09, 2019 7:18 am Closest I've seen to something like like is a Takeda ko-bunka, but nothing that short in length will be that tall.

I've tried a similar approach, but realized that cleavers are too heavy - they're after more a slicer than a chopper...nakneker wrote: ↑Sat Feb 09, 2019 10:05 am There are short cleavers on EBay that come close.
