Gonna give a go later tonight when company comes for dinner.

I have that knife's brother! Shehan was nice enough to make one for me to spec: 57x255. It's so good!

Not sure why it took me so long to get one, but I finally picked up my first nakiri. I think that my new found love for cleavers opened me up to knives with out conventional tips. I’m kind of on the fence about this one because the grind isn’t even from heel to tip so I’m gonna have to do some work on the front half before deciding if it’s a keeper. She sure is a looker though. One piece spaghetti oak handle was done by Duy...but I think I’ll call it ramen oak instead 😁

That looks a lot like the one I have, mine measure 260x59. I’d call it twins. Have you ever been to his shop?

I've been a few times, actually (I live just a bit south of Santa Fe).

I got to see and handle your knife, actually, when I picked mine up. Yours is just a bit bigger, as you noted. The grind on these is spectacular (and I really mean that, and not just saying it. It's something special).

The wood on that handle is absolutely bonkers. I’ve never seen wood that looks like that. Part noodle, part desert camo. Looks awesome

I agree with your sentiments and the quality of the knife. You never know what to expect and I hadn’t heard of him until lately, so went it arrived and I checked it out I was delighted. I used it that same night on a pretty good sized meal and was even happier after spending 20 minutes on the cutting board with it. I liked it enough that me and friend ordered two cleavers from him, he didn’t immediately warm up to the idea but decided he would do it. I would wager his prices and demand will increase significantly over the next year or two.

Love me some Yahiko

About a year ago I was on the Passaround for the 240 (250mm) version of this knife, and it was such a surprise - how can such a thick knife, with such a low grind, cut so well - and as if to defy everything I know, it just glides through any hard stuff my kitchen had to offer.
What's more, it released food in a manner I havn't seen till then, nor since (I'm still a Takeda virgin...) Not sure if it's the low shoulders and dimples that pull this feat off, or if there's a hint of an s-grind there too.
What's more more, even my wife was attracted.
That was it, had to have one! But 250 is too much for me, and certainly for her, so here we are.
Handle is courtesy of Randy Rose (Matchplay18) I'll post another pic on the other thread, just to show off :P
I can't believe there still hasn't been a single review of these on the site
