Morning Everyone, anyone else out and about mushroom hunting? With a wrap up for mothers day weekend have found 400+ white and black morels and around a dozen pheasant backs.
Took advantage for mothers day cooked a aged venison loin, brown butter sauteed morels, and a red wine pan sauce. Must have been ok because there was no left overs....

Thanks guys, super tasty for sure! Got a chance this afternoon to get back out and look for a few more, the heats coming and they are disappearing.
Made venison backstraps and morels with buttered spaetzle and greenbeans.
Can't believe no one else on here not finding/picking morels and other mushrooms.

They are in season here in Arizona in the high country. We have black morels the come up after forest fires and few of the creamy colored morels. You have to hunt for them but usually when you find them you’ll find a bunch in a small area.Vouston wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2019 8:39 pm Thanks guys, super tasty for sure! Never even really thought this was something I could do!
Is it specific to certain regions of the US? I'm in the midwest.
Are there specific places I can find guides to mushroom picking/foraging?

Our season has been on and off.....took a quick look at a few areas on our property today and did not find any....we had some rain a few days ago and now are looking at several days of warm dry weather...hoping it will spur on one more growth spurt. Starting to look forward to chanterelles in the summer.

I'm in midwest as well and they are all over. Can have them pop up in your yard, if you're lucky! Otherwise wooded, shady areas, around elms and cherries with moss are great places to look.
There are several guides and resources.... National Audubon Society Field guide to mushrooms is a good place to start.

Agreed, seems as if our season here has been weird and extra duration to it. These cold spells and all the rain just keep it going. Found a few more but then these 80° temps and everything greening up really fast is going to put an end to it all pretty soon.Carter wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2019 6:01 pm Our season has been on and off.....took a quick look at a few areas on our property today and did not find any....we had some rain a few days ago and now are looking at several days of warm dry weather...hoping it will spur on one more growth spurt.
