Show us your new knife!
Re: Show us your new knife!
Not quite a knife, but darn pointy and very sharp!
My wife surprised me with a pair of Moribashi for our six-year anniversary. I spoke of these in the past, thinking they were cool. Well, they're even cooler in person!
That being said, I realize their added (front) weight makes using these much harder than a standard pair of chopsticks.
Any tips and pointers can you give on using these?

Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentation of the women

Is that how you normally grip? It seems a bit off, especially the middle finger, which might be affecting your command.Altadan wrote: ↑Fri Oct 25, 2019 1:49 pm Not quite a knife, but darn pointy and very sharp!

Well, I've been struggling with the whole affair... I think my middle finger is in there to support the extra weight of the steelenjay wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2019 4:24 pmIs that how you normally grip? I opened another thread in the General section, so as not to detract from new knives. Happy to get suggestions.

The Thunder God has arrived!
The Kanji get lost in the pattern. The grind on this one is very very close to the grind on my 210 Anryu B#2 hammered. It cuts and looks very nice.

Gorgeous Kurosaki Raijin! Glad you treated yourself Bob. I'm interested to know more about the steel, all I can find is "cobalt special stainless".
Re: Show us your new knife!
I spent a long time looking for the steel also but ended up getting the knife cause it was stainless and looked great, but maybe this might help:

It seems that its super vg-10 if that helps.

Medium carbon Damascus clad 52100 core gyuto with forged (and super thin) distal taper from Tobi / Metal Monkeys.
Very impressive F&F, and performance.

Aloha from the Big Island. Wanting to forge. No room. First time doing handles and purchasing Japanese blades/knives. I got a DaoVua blade (bring them back!) to practice on, then a Yahiko VG10 210 gyuto. Haven't really had a chance to put them through their paces. Used the DaoVua tonight prepping. Super light! Sharpened it when I got it, and it's pretty thin. Cuts well. Will use the Yahiko next. Full description of handles, as well as others I've "practiced" on, in the New Handle thread.
