I sold my Rika for a Cerax 6k. The Rika is softer, nicer, but seems closer to a 4K finish than 5k. The 6k Cerax is harder but still feels fairly smooth, with a finish that seems close to its listed grit. You can finish a knife with either, but I like to finish most of my knives at 6k.

I do finish some on a 4K-ish natural stone, though. Many forum members finish at 4-5. Just personal preference developed over time.

Also depends on what is in your progression. My standard is 800-2000-6000.

That said I might buy a Rika again to fill a hole in my largely Suehiro lineup.

1k 6k what I was doing but the two stone I have is more like a 400 and 1k combo not really good stones. But the cerax n Rika that was sent to me to try are better stones and get a lot keener and sharper edge. But like not having the base so me might buy the Rika since the 5k and 6k cerax have the bases attached to them.

I prefer stones without bases. My Cerax has one. I've gotten use to it, but would prefer none.

Slightly faster, but it would take a long time before it would matter.

Okay I think I'm going to get the Rika 5k with the cerax 1k then. Then maybe a 8k stone later on.
