Black Lotus Knives
Jeff Steel of Black Lotus Knives (Melbourne, Australia) contacted me about doing a little project together, and Mark graciously gave me permission to host a passaround. The collaboration is going to involve a couple other members. Once Jeff has finished the knife, I will be doing the finish polishing & sharpening, and Sean will be making the handle (and possibly saya) using materials supplied by George K.
The knife itself is going to be wrought iron & nickel clad 52100. I requested that the gyuto be around 250x53 using whatever grind geometry he typically likes to do. Below is a link to Jeff’s Instagram page.

I’m going to limit this passaround to 10-15 people for now. Participants must have a minimum post count of 150 posts (I’ll accept a lower post count if I know you). We will do our usual 1 week limit before shipping to the next person. The knife will be shipped fully insured (value TBD) with tracking. Participants will be asked write a review of the knife after they have used it for a week. I’ll give out more details once we are about ready to start. Please PM me if your are interested in joining the passaround.
I will also use this thread to give updates regarding the knife’s progress. Jeff forge welded the materials yesterday and is going to begin forging the knife soon. Here are a few photos that he sent me this morning.

Re: Black Lotus Knives
To be determined, but I was thinking about it this morning and thought that it might be cool for us to auction the knife and donate the proceeds to a charity. I’m pretty sure that Jeff will be good with that.

I like it! I’d bid on that.

Well, I'm a little low on the post count to make this one . Would love to participate though! Those are some great looking knives.

Re: Black Lotus Knives
I talked things over with Jeff, and he likes the idea of auctioning the knife and donating the money to charity. It appears as though we both share a love for dogs, and we both have pit bulls. All 3 of my dogs are rescues so the plan is to donate the proceeds to an animal rescue.
You’re a newer member with a post count below the minimum I set, but you seem to be fairly active so I don’t have a problem including you in this passaround. Plus, it might be a while before we actually begin the passaround so by that time you will have likely met the requirements.
The current participant list is as follows:
nakneker
Bluenoser87
andreu
Altadan
Bob Z
J David
Georgek
Slobound

Re: Black Lotus Knives
From looking at Instagram it looks like Jeff forges some really great knives. Between that, Steve doing the finish polishing and Sean making the handle, I feel like this is going to be one BADASS knife!
