WTB Kiyoshi Kato Damascus, Kikuryu

This is a free service where you can buy and sell knives and sharpening equipment and kitchen tools. There is no fee for posting items but we require that you've made at least 30 posts on our forum before you post something for sale.
Forum rules
As stated in the description, we want to get to know you better before allowing new forum members to post items for sale. You will not be able to create topics until you reach a 30 post minimum. Please take your time and contribute to the forum discussions in a substantive way. SPAM posting to reach 30 posts is considered very bad form and could get you booted off these forums.

NOTE: If you have an item for sale and you are located outside the Continental U.S. please state your location so the buyer knows what to expect in a purchase transaction.

WTB Kiyoshi Kato Damascus, Kikuryu

Hey all -

In case you have one of these collecting dust on the shelf :)
Have some really high end stuff to trade (think River Jump, Shig and OLD Kono) and, of course, will pay fair market price.

Thanks for considering!

I wish I had some of those beauties. Moreover, I wish I had enough that I could in turn sell you some and you could have some too! If you find ones that don't fit your desires or get too many offers (as unlikely as this is) let me know; I'm interested!

I saw 2 of these, 1 gyuto and one petty, both with western handles. Those were my komodo dragons. Wish I could have persuaded the owner to let them go!

Do you know if Kato is still producing damascus knives?

I’m certainly not connected enough to definitively say yes or no on his producing of dammy or the kikuryu, but my guess is no.

I think, and again, I have zero connections here, focus has been on the Workhorse for JNS (a lovely, lovey blade) and the standard Kasumi—recently becoming available in Blue 2 (by many trusted accounts). There are still KU’s that Ogura-San at Morihei gets (or says he does).

I wish it were easier to track down reliable information on these knives... though maybe that would take the fun out of it?

Amen! The most reliable source of Kato’s is, by FAR, JNS. And I love the Workhorse that Maksim commissioned.

But it’s tough. I’ve had two different people tell me he’s done, but I’ve also been fortunate enough to purchase multiple in the last year.

So the mystery is.

The situation is unfortunately a dire one, it seems Kato-san's back and knee pain is quite severe, while I have many items ordered, I have received nothing in the past..., I can't even remember how long anymore actually, probably like more than 2 years or so...Kato-san will be making less and less kitchen knives from now on - Japan Tool

This has been on Japan-Tool for as long as I can remember... at least since 2015. Not saying it's wrong, just So doesn't seem to make a lot of updates to his webpage :)

Yeah, I have acquired multiple "new" Kato in the last 12 months alone. Four, I think, were made relatively recently.
