Master Saji Rainbow Series on JCK - wha???

Post by GyutoGyutoGyuto »

Not my thing. I’m only sharing because seeing this knife has hurt my eyes and made my lunch start to come up my throat and I don’t know what else to do. This knife was SOLD, so maybe it’s just me.

"The unique multi-colored Damascus blades feature a core of Blue #2 high-carbon steel that is clad with multiple layers of rust-resistant stainless steel, brass and copper."

And that urushi lacquered handle? Well, it does say it’s "deluxe quality” so maybe it’s just me, but…. no. Just no.

It's not just me, right? RIGHT???

I agree, the handle is off putting.

The blade I would say is not my cup of tea, but I could see how it would be for some people

I'm a utilitarian-handle guy anyway, but that thing is uniquely hideous, never seen that before.

As for the blade, I echo bruin's sentiment.

Tsukasa Hinoura also uses that kind of cladding; see for instance https://www.epicedge.com/shopexd.asp?id=97064

I've seen some ugly customs around here but that has to be one of the most hideous handles I've seen...

I don't get the point of this thread.........
I think it's unfair and very negative to rag on a knife that is loved by many and also sold by Mark. (Especially the way its been phrased.)

The cladding could appeal to me. I'd rehandle though ;)

Somebody in Echizen made those and they have a rubber like feel to them. Kurosaki had a couple installed on his knives that were in his sales room when I visited. They sort of look like they were dipped in the same way you make candles.

Like what they do for hammer handles? The look just isn’t my preference. But they probably do offer good grip.

I’m a bit speechless about the handle. It just shows how diversified our world is.

it seems to look like a stingray wrapped handle, or a poor imitation of, or a bad picture of a poor imitation of stingray, and to pull that off they could do the silk wrap over the stingray...but im pretty sure those style of handles dont belong on kitchen knives...id like to ee a higher def photo :)

It's not my bag, but the skill involved in the Tsukasa Hinoura version must be incredible.
