Didn't see this before so tardy reply. Have delved into the Indian basmati rices lately, and like the Daawat Ultimate the best after trying several other brands. Aged two years!
For Sushi i like the Nishiki, but haven't tried any others.

Love the Royal Umbrella jasmine rice. Probably the best I've tried. As for Lundberg, they're pricey but they do turn out some great product. Their brown jasmine is excellent. Sushi rice, I picked up Tamanishiki Super Premium last time I was at Mitsuwa and it really blew me away.killerloop wrote: ↑Thu Jun 03, 2021 2:26 pm Have been experimenting with different rice brands for a while now and there are my favs:

+1 on Tamanishiki super premium short grain. Been dabbling in DIY sushi since COVID and this stuff is great aside from super premium price. Love to hear some folks talk about different short grain product comparisons.ronnie_suburban wrote: ↑Mon Jun 28, 2021 12:03 am Tamanishiki Super Premium last time I was at Mitsuwa and it really blew me away.

I'm as far from a rice aficionado or snob as you can get. The rice I use most is either Royal Basmati or Kokuho Rose.

Re: What RICE brands do you like?
Anyone recommend a good, not brown, medium grain rice. Seems I usually get a short grain sushi rice or a long grain (and the long grain really doesn't do it for me). Thanks!

If you have a spare 20 minutes I think it runs, you may find this video of interest perhaps.

I don't buy a lot of rice in this particular category but CalRose gets a lot of wide praise from those in the know. I'm more of a jasmine fan and for that, I really like Royal Umbrella.

We have just switched to Nishiki Haiga medium grain rice. It’s not polished and isn’t stark white, but we like it more than the Nishiki Premium Medium we used before. Supposedly, Haiga rice (brown with just the hull removed and germ intact) is better for you. I think it’s more flavorful.

Re: What RICE brands do you like?
Thanks Mr. Suburban. I like the Calrose, but the way I seem to make it, it turns out way to sticky for fried rice, even though it should work, according to what I've read. Long grain, I've read, is a bad choice for fried rice, and a medium grain is recommended. I'll try the Jasmine Royal Umbrella.
Mr. M627, I know brown rice is better for us, I just don't like it. I'm weird, and somethings I just can't stand. I'll look for the Nishiki Premium Medium and see how I like that.
Thanks everybody!
