Re: Favorite Kitchen Item?
This may sound silly - an old wooden spoon. It belonged to my mother, and every time I use it to stir a sauce, I think of her.

Digital Scale. Does grams and ounces. It gets used for everything from measuring coffee, to burger paddies and used to get used for baking. Even use it to weigh baking soda for the correct ratio to water to clean corrosion from lead acid batteries.

This is exactly what I was going to say but then . . .
Of course! In my case, it could only be Julie!

Not to mention weighing packages to get shipping rates!

Re: Favorite Kitchen Item?
I would never call my wife a favorite kitchen item! That's why I tell her to stay out of the kitchen when I'm in there trying to cook.
OK, I'm going to the truck now...

Large & a small cutting boards, hand made from re-cycled NZ Kauri, treated with pure Tung oil. So, history, absolutely beautiful and a delight to use every day.

Re: Favorite Kitchen Item?
Over twenty years ago, I bought a piece of tantalum plate off the Bay. It has since become very useful as a heat diffuser for the range in my renter, whose small burner has a very small adjustment capacity. It’s also a perfect comal for one tortilla at a time. With commodity prices what they are, it might be the priciest single item in my kitchen.
It’s 7x7 and about 3/16 thick. It weighs nearly four pounds.

For me, without a doubt, a Japanese mandolin, easily one of the sharpest blades in the kitchen at most times, and a time saver when you have to fine brunoise veg by the qt.

My pizza stone is not something I'd easily give up. I use it a lot for rolls, biscuits and other bread treats not mention the occasional pizza.

Hi Taz. I've never managed to post photos to CKTGF in ten or eleven years on the forum. I think that Mr Xerox has written some destructions about it recently, so I'll read those & try again

If you still have difficulties, DM or email me and I'll try to address them. Alternately you could send me the photos and I'll post them for you.
You can blame Mr. Suburban for my being here.
