Thats weird, my bad. I thought you sold one that i ended up with and then ended selling it. Only, to get another. At this point, especially with them seeming to be done making more im pretty sure im keeping mine. Definetly a work of art.salemj wrote: ↑Thu Nov 30, 2017 3:10 pm I never sold mine. This is my old one. I did consider buying a second one at point...! I also have thought about selling mine from time to time (I've thought about selling each of my knives at some point), but it is such a work of art that I haven't ever "really" considered it.

Those are some seriously beautiful knives! Wouldn't mind spending a few hours in your kitchen at all.

If you're up to it, please feel free to post more impressions of it after you've had a while to enjoy using it. It's a fabulous pickup. A year ago when I could afford to put my name into their lottery, for months I didn't see anything that grabbed my eye. Now the last three months in a row almost every knife looked great to me, but I can't afford to jump in... Congrats on winning the lottery!salemj wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2017 9:34 pm The Bloodroot is from the November lottery, so I suspect it was made in September or October. It is absolutely magnificent in terms of fit and finish, and it is also one of the thinnest, most precise grinds I've seen, at least according to first impressions. I've only had it for a few days...
Re: Show us your new knife!
Thanks for the kind words! It's the latest knife that I made. It had significant warps after I heat treated it, especially bad at the edge, so I planned on just finishing it out best I could and keep it myself. However, it came out so much nicer than I expected that it's almost too good to keep, LOL.

Whoa... that's quite a nice collection. I can't wait to see what your collection will be like in a year or two. Or heck, even in a couple of months based on this pic!AlbuquerqueDan wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2017 10:41 pm I bought my first Japanese knife about a month ago, so these are all new.

Getting into these knives, learning new cutting techniques, and sharpening, has been a really fun adventure so far. So glad I dove down this rabbit hole!
Which knives are your favorites right now? Which one was the gateway drug?

Thanks, man. My first knife is my current favorite: the Sukenari. It seems to possess an impossible balance of qualities: burly, but nimble. It cuts like a laser, but has absolutely no flex. It's a dream.milkbaby wrote: ↑Fri Dec 01, 2017 6:48 pmWhoa... that's quite a nice collection. I can't wait to see what your collection will be like in a year or two. However, my gateway was the Kanehiro santoku. I had CKTG sharpen it, so it was my first truly sharp knife. It set the benchmark for what sharp is. It was also very easy to use as a beginner in Japanese style knife technique (a great transition knife from Western to Eastern). Now that I'm comfortable sharpening and with Asian style cutting, I'm able to appreciate the larger gyutos. I really do love them all though, each in their own way.
As for you, you made that nakiri?!? Dang, dude! Them's some skills you got! Really.
Re: Show us your new knife!
My Sukenari W#1 Honyaki 185mm santoku with new shroeder semi custom handle hated the stock handle , Alton installed a lovely purple maple burl with African Blackwood ferrule and buckeye Burl spacer . I put it in full rotation today . Man this thing cuts ! The edge it takes is incredible , and the retention seems good so far . I’ll review it further down the road if anyone is interested in my ramblings .
Glad we got this thread started . We needed it . Daily knife porn, why not? Nice knives guys !

I’ve been waiting a while for this one. Finally back in stock and perfectly timed with Mark’s BFS. I’ve used it for one meal so far and I’m in

I currently have a sukenari hap40 240 in my shop for a rehandle. It felt really nice in my hand. It will have new shoes tomorrow.
