Looks like a sweet little knife. Handle pairs very well with the blade to my eye.
Thank you.
It's a take-off from a Hatsukokoro Hayabusa
I wanted a basic handle that complimented the kuroichi finish. The handle is big, but it'll work.
not sure if it makes a difference, but at least the balance point is right where i pinch grip.

Nice knife! Classic Sakai profile, which I love. If you decide to adjust the handle, an easy, conservative way is to just use some sandpaper and a low-grit diamond plate. You can easily subtract a bit of the taper, or a bit of the overall girth, by just sanding each side of the octagon on the plate (using the plate itself or sandpaper on the blade). I've done this once or twice and it provided just what I needed. A little bit can make a big difference in some cases. I only mention because - for me - I really struggle to connect with a knife if the handle feels too big (I have smaller hands).

I have another handle on the way that I'm going to put on it if it looks decent.
The other handle is too large.
I may try to sand it down. I have a 1x30 belt sander that would probably make quick work of it.
k, I couldn't help myself.
I chose the path of least resistance and just put a take-off handle on it.
The knife is a bazillion times better for my hands.
The other handle looks nicer, but this one is functionally better for me.
Smaller in circumference and much lighter.
The first handle seems to have darker streaks of grain visually allowing the ku to transition into it, where as this handle's black ferrule accentuates the ku finish, especially with the lighter handle. Glad this one works for ya.

Still makes for a fine looking knife. If you end up really liking it, you can work on the original handle and change it out again in the future.

Thank you. It's growing on me.
I was going to order an African Blackwood or one of the darker ebony woods in 130mm, but I'm liking the current handle enough to wait on replacing it.
heres the last two knifes i made, (btw this isnt randy this is his son) a matching set of a 240mm gyuto and a 275mm "brisket slayer" as my dad calls it.
they both have the same scales on each, the red being stabilized and dyed buckeye burl from craig stevens studio, the bolster is stabilized and dyed blue curly maple. each with a nice stainless spacer between the bolster and rest of the handle! lemme know what you think!

Kerneldrop,
That is a very nice looking knife with a great profile, congratulations on your new purchase.
I had to look twice to make sure that was not an Anryu.

Well since you mentioned it....Yamamoto on bottom, Anryu B#2 right above it.
Both are "New Old Stock" that I'm just bringing out for the first time.
I got the Yamamoto before his prices doubled. lol
